Full Metal Jacket

In this issue I would like to talke to you about one of my

favourite Stanley Kubrick movies: "Full Metal

Jacket".Full Metal jacket is a 1987 war by Stanley

Kubrick based on the novel The Short-Timers by Gustav

Hasford. The title refers to the kind of bullets that infantry

use. This is one of Kubrick's masterpieces, one of the best

movies about Vietnam War. Movie is divided in 2 parts: in

the first part there is a rude, cold and violent description of

the Marines training. Movie shows us as normal nice guys

are turned into cold cold weapons in uniform, except for

the soldier "Pyle" who will see no other end than killing

himself and his Instructror. In the second part of the movie,

the soldier Joker and others are finally in Vietnam, ready

for the war. Here they will have to face reality: they

expected a situation like in John Wayne's movie, but what

they see is dead people, blood, abusive sergents, people

who doesnt want to be saved. A nightmare, an hell,

the real horrors of war. The movie is about the Vietnam

war, but it can fit any war has never happened..or will

happen. A lesson for the people of all the world.

My favorite movies

This is the second time I give my top 5 movies, and like last time I tell you all that the movies I picked here are favorites of mine for this time. It changes a lot and there are so many fantastic movies to be seen.

1 Otto E Mezzo (8 ½)

A strange movie from the Italian director Fellini, I loved it after a couple of times watching. It’s not complicated but one has to see difference between reality and dreaming. I loved the soundtrack, Marcello Mastrioanni and the beautiful Claudia Cardinale. The plot of this movie is simple: A director working on new movie project is staying in a spa, meeting people and thinking of a plot. He can’t focus and gets memory of women and events he had in his life and they begin to live in his head. The scenes are great but the tempo of the movie is very slow so don’t  fall asleep.

2 The Pink Panther strikes again

This is the fourth part of the Pink Panther movies and again with an awsome Peter Sellers as clumbsy chief inspector calles Clouseau. His commisionair went mad and is trying to kill him wich results in an international hunt with assassins worldwide and a big gun in a castle. The humour is very good in this movie, I myself think it’s the best part of all pink panther movies.

3 Monty Python and the quest for the holy grail

Again a comedy and this time from the best comedy group ever: Monty python, just like other movies it has great humour, not only in action but also mainly in the language. KingArthur and his knights are looking for the grail and on their way they meet adventures wich are very humouristic. I didn’t like the sudden ending of the movie wich I will not give away, but after seeing it again I think it’s the most hilarious ending ever.

4. 2001 : A space odyssey

2001 is a great movie from Stanley Kubrick. I admire most of his work and as I have to choose I think this is his best work. The music is great, classical pieces and old songs with terrific images. The story of mankind developing from apes to human beings and the start of created intelligence in the form of robots. The ending is weird and very colourfull and it takes a few times watching to understand everything but I think its not mainly the story but the total of images and music wich makes the movie keep wandering arround in your brain.

5 Where eagles dare

This made up story bout an operation by british paratroopers into a german castle resulted in one of the best war movies. It got great action, Clint Eastwood with a machine gun, the good old Richard Burton and spectacular scenes in a cosy German village and castle. Even tough nazi officers are not forgotten in this movie. I think the main soundtrack added great value too. The dark surrounding and narrow castle corridors make this adventure complete.
